COMMUNITY NEWS

They swam, biked and ran through Lititz on Sunday. A retirement community stood along the course and cheered them past.

The 12th Annual Lititz recCenter Triathlon went off Sunday morning: a 300-meter swim in the Lititz Springs pool, 15.8 miles on the bike through farmland, and a 3.1-mile run through town.

The published results contain 227 finishes: 187 individual triathlon finishers, 15 triathlon relay teams, 19 individual Bike/Run finishers and six Bike/Run relay teams. One additional individual triathlon result is marked disqualified.

That Bike/Run was new this year — the same bike and run legs, no swim at all. Nineteen individuals finished it, along with six relay teams.

The overall triathlon winner was Jeremy King, 45, in 1:11:05; Corinna Harnly, 33, was the first woman, finishing in 1:18:03. In the Bike/Run, Bret Lieberman, 58, won overall and Lorinda Koch, 57, was the first woman. Beth Kimmel, 61, finished third among women.

The other thing that happened Sunday didn't involve a finish line at all. The running course wound through Moravian Manor Communities' Founders and Warwick Woodlands campuses. Moravian Manor wrote that it “especially loved cheering on participants” as runners came through.

The rec center's own thank-you listed sponsors, volunteers, participants — and the cheering fans, right there in the same sentence as everybody who actually raced.
