COMMUNITY NEWS

A coach who says "This community raised me" has opened a baseball training center in Lancaster.

"My dream is simple: to continue growing the game of baseball right here in Lancaster. This community raised me," says the website bio of Ty Book, a co-owner of By the Book Baseball.

The center held its grand opening Saturday, October 24, at 1103 Ranck Mill Road, Lancaster.

Afterward, it thanked the local baseball community for coming out to see the new building.

On Sunday, November 1, it said it's excited to start its programming.

The bio says he first stepped onto a diamond at age 5 and has coached in Lancaster County since 2005.

It lists four district championships and a PIAA state championship on his resume.

Inside, the center lists full-length cages, a weight room with a turf sprint lane, and TrackMan pitch tracking, which it says gives players "the same data the pros train with."

There's also a HitTrax league, which it describes as six sessions hitting against pitching machines, playing a different Major League ballpark every week.

Non-members can rent a cage for $60 an hour.

The center lists hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

If you aren't sure which membership fits, it offers a free facility tour.

Its number is 717-945-9474.
