Morning Lancaster.
Are you enjoying this “heat wave” we’ve been in?

Personally, It’s made me want to slow down on work, take a nice walk, and enjoy our beautiful county a bit more.

As I write this, I’m tempted to go out to the park down the street here in Etown.

But before I do that, here’s what I think is worth your time today.

New Feature: A “Spot” for Sandwiches and Service in Elizabethtown

Image taken by me

This week we’re highlighting a truly community-minded local business: The Spot Hometown Deli in downtown Elizabethtown. What started as a mission for Ed and Kristin Cunningham has grown into a place that’s about more than great sandwiches - it’s about giving people a chance.

From hiring folks overcoming barriers to employment to a “pay-it-forward” meal program that invites customers to help neighbors in need, The Spot is reshaping what it means to be a local deli. And of course, their delicious sandwiches - made with local and regional ingredients - have turned heads and earned community accolades.

What’s more impressive to us as we got to know the owners, both in our interview but also over the years we’ve eaten here, is their heart and love for their neighbors, staff, and everyone they meet.

They’re one of the businesses we recommend most to anyone in the area.

A Note From Andrew

Hey Lancaster family, Andrew here.

If you’re new here, I’m the guy who researches and writes (most) of the articles.

My wife Megan writes our weekly business features - like this week's Spot profile.

I really hope you like the one we did with The Spot.

It’s our first one 🙂

I can't tell you how much I love getting to connect with local business owners, especially those who want to give back to the community they're in.

Next week we're meeting with Halo’s Eatery, and last night we met with a wonderful local realtor who has many wonderful insights to share about our local market.

As always, thank you so much for being part of our newsletter.

We love having you here, and we hope you enjoy reading our weekday newsletter as we send it out at 6 a.m. each morning.

My hope is it connects you to Lancaster County better and brightens your morning just a little bit.

In a previous edition of the newsletter, many of you asked me to write more historical pieces.

In some morning newsletters, I write mini-articles talking about historical stories.

I am curious if there is anything you would like me to specifically research and cover.

Would you respond to this email and let me know what you’d like to learn about?

-Andrew
