COMMUNITY NEWS
The horse trough out front is original.
The building at 905 West Main Street in Mount Joy has been welcoming guests for more than two centuries.
Now it has a new name: Amore, an Italian kitchen and bar.
After a soft-launch weekend, Amore set Monday, October 5, as the start of its regular hours, and it now says it is "officially fully open."
According to the restaurant, records trace the building back to 1818, when it was first licensed as a tavern stand in the village then known as Springville.
The original spring-fed horse trough still stands out front, which Amore calls "a rare survivor from Lancaster County's early tavern era."
Over the years, the building carried on as a neighborhood gathering place under different names, most recently as The Watering Trough.
The kitchen focuses on house-made pasta and wood-fired entrées.
The wood-fired pizza oven stayed with the building. "Refreshed, restored, and ready to fire up," the restaurant posted.
Every great family has a story, Amore says, and its own "begins right here in Mount Joy."
The restaurant's posted hours are 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. every day except Tuesday.
