A ski shop that started in a family barn is open for the season, and the founder's son runs it.

Ski Tunes Ski Shop, at 2531 Ironville Pike in Columbia, held its grand reopening on October 15 and is open for the 2026–27 ski season.

The shop began in 1991, when Grant Shultz and his wife Lynn opened a small tune-up shop in the lower level of their renovated 1860s barn.

At the time, Grant was a teacher in the Hempfield School District, running the school ski club and tuning students' skis "simply because he loved the sport and wanted others to enjoy it too," the shop says.

Word spread through the skiers who trusted Grant, and Ski Tunes grew from tune-ups into sales, custom fittings, repairs and full ski and snowboard service.

Many of the shop's longtime helpers came from Grant's ski group, the Rail Riders.

Today his son, Derek Shultz, is the owner and operator. "Derek grew up watching his dad tune skis, help customers, and build a community around the sport," the shop says.

Ski Tunes sells new skis, boots and snowboard gear, and leases equipment for the whole season.

All of its lease equipment is brand new for 2026–27, and youth packages start at $175.

You can also bring in lightly used gear to sell for cash or shop credit, or drop off skis and boards for tuning, waxing, binding mounting and boot fitting.

Hours are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Call or text 717-684-6949.
