COMMUNITY NEWS
An Ephrata candle maker opened its own shop above a Main Street café, and Friday is the grand opening.
Turtle Hill Candle Co. opened its new shop on October 13 on the second floor of 20 West Main Street in Ephrata, right above Griddle & Grind Cafe + Creperie.
Mainspring of Ephrata celebrates the grand opening with a ribbon cutting Friday, October 30, at 10:00 a.m.
Mainspring says Turtle Hill has spent five years making premium candles and wax melts in small batches, hand-poured in the heart of Ephrata.
Its candles have also been sold in other local shops, including Artisan Mill and WhirliGig in Elizabethtown.
In August, the shop posted a checklist for Griddle & Grind, from "Amazing Coffee" to an "Empty second floor."
Then it asked, "Wait, no gift shop?" "Let's change that."
"After weeks of pouring blood, sweat, and more than a few tears into renovating this space," the shop wrote two days before it opened, "it's hard to believe we're finally getting ready to open our doors!"
Upstairs you'll find its own handcrafted candles, plus wax warmers, books, journals, creative supplies and curated gifts.
Griddle & Grind's staff has been talking up the candy, too: espresso, coffee and green tea flavored candies, gourmet lollipops and root beer barrels.
"We are so excited to open our doors on Main Street," owner Meghan McVaugh said in Mainspring's announcement. "We are incredibly grateful to our customers for making our growth over the last few years possible and for allowing us to continue chasing our dreams."
At Friday's ribbon cutting, Turtle Hill will raffle off a coffee-lovers gift basket worth more than $100, including a $20 Griddle & Grind gift card, and the café will have a food special for the day.
The shop is open Wednesday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., so you can stop in today.
Mainspring's advice: grab a favorite coffee, browse the shelves and "enjoy the day in the cozy upstairs."
