COMMUNITY NEWS

He was found at Lancaster Central Park. Five days after the shelter posted about him, he was back with his owner.

The Pennsylvania SPCA's Lancaster Center posts these more often than anyone would like. A photo, and three words: Do you recognize me?

This one was a small male mixed-breed dog found at Lancaster Central Park. The Pennsylvania SPCA's Lancaster Center posted his photo on Friday, July 31, asking whether anyone recognized him.

People shared the post, hoping it would reach someone who knew him.

Then on Wednesday, the shelter came back to its own post and added one line:

“Update: This little man has been REUNITED with his owner!”

Five days after the post went up, the shelter said he was back with his owner.

Not every found-dog post has an ending yet. This week, the same shelter posted about a small poodle mix found on the 400 block of East King Street and asked anyone who recognized him to get in touch. The Lancaster Center is at 848 S. Prince Street.

EVENTS

Four things today, then a weekend with a closing curtain and a big top.

The library stays open into the evening for First Friday. It's a five-minute walk from the Demuth garden, so the two of these make one plan.

📖 Storywalk Unveiling @ Adamstown Park — 272 W. Main St, Adamstown. Today, Friday, August 7, 12:30–1:30 p.m. Free. The Adamstown Area Library is installing a picture book along a park path, one page at a time, so that reading it and taking a walk become the same activity. This is the ribbon-cutting. Bring water — it'll be hot out there at 12:30.

🧶 Common Thread Crafting Club — Manheim Township Public Library, Morgan Center A. Today, Friday, August 7, 10–11:30 a.m. Free, no registration required. For adults and seniors. Bring your current fiber project, whether it's knitting, crochet, felting, or cross-stitch.

✂️ Decoupage Café — Horst Arts Center, 17 N Main St, Manheim, PA 17545. Saturday, August 8, 10 a.m. You order off a physical menu — earrings, pendants, clay pots, coasters — and they hand you the tools and a pile of beautiful paper. Bring your own papers if you have ones that mean something; thin paper works best. Check their page for ticket prices.

🎪 Cirque de Paris — Under the Big Top at Tanger Outlets Lancaster, 311 Stanley K Tanger Dr, Lancaster, PA 17602. Saturday, August 8, 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. The French one-ring circus is into its first full Lancaster weekend, and Saturday is the only day this weekend with three shows. Tickets are cheaper online; check the ticket page for current prices. Adult tickets are for ages 13 and up.

Closing weekend: Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8 at 7:30 p.m., with the final show Sunday, August 9 at 2 p.m. A musical-theater obsessive drops the needle on his favorite record and a 1920s show erupts in his living room, complete with tap-dancing gangsters, showgirls, and a chaperone who loves champagne nearly as much as meddling. Adults $27, children under 18 $20. The theater says the building is not currently fully accessible and asks patrons needing accommodations to contact the box office at least 24 hours before showtime. Wheelchair seating is limited.

🚂 Strasburg Railroad Museum — Moores Memorial Library, 9 West Slokom Avenue, Christiana, PA 17509. Tuesday, August 11, 1:30–2:30 p.m. The library lists this as an all-ages summer-reading program but does not provide a description.

Tuesday, August 11, 5–8 p.m. Mention the Mountville Library when ordering, and 20% of your food purchase will benefit the library branch. A round of mini golf at neighboring Boulders during those hours also helps, with 20% of the ticket price donated to the library.
