Five starts. Twenty-nine innings. Seven earned runs. The league noticed.
Noah Bremer had the kind of August that doesn't need adjectives, so here are the numbers instead. Five starts. A 4–0 record. Twenty-nine innings pitched, seventeen hits allowed, eight runs total and only seven of them earned. Nine walks. Thirty-six strikeouts.
That works out to a 2.17 ERA for the month, and on Wednesday the Atlantic League named the Stormers' right-hander its Pitcher of the Month for August.
He bookended it well. Bremer opened the month with six shutout innings at Southern Maryland in an 8–1 win, and closed it on August 26 at Charleston with seven more shutout frames and a season-high ten strikeouts.
The longer view is the part that surprised me. By the club's own count, the California native now sits fourth all-time in wins as a Stormer with 29, and second all-time in strikeouts with 382. The Stormers also say he's become only the sixth pitcher in the history of the Atlantic League to put together three or more seasons of 100-plus strikeouts.
Six, in the whole history of the league. And he did the third one on North Prince Street.
