Morning Lancaster. Happy Tuesday :)

This county has a way of surprising you.

One minute you’re driving past quiet farmland, the next you’re walking into a ballroom filled with local art that changes lives.

One day it’s kids stepping onto a field with their parents, learning something new together. The next it’s discovering that “luxury” here doesn’t look like what the rest of the world thinks it does.

Lancaster isn’t flashy. It’s layered. And if you pay attention, there’s always something meaningful happening just beneath the surface.

Here’s what I think is worth your time today.

Step Onto the Field Together: Parent & Child Softball Clinic with the Lancaster Stormers

There’s something special about learning the game side by side.

The Lancaster Stormers are inviting local families to do exactly that with their upcoming Parent/Child Two-Day Softball Clinic, happening February 23 and 25 from 6–8 PM.

This isn’t your typical drop-off sports camp. The focus is simple - build fundamentals, confidence, and connection.

Instead of parents watching from the sidelines, they’ll be on the field.

The Stormers’ coaching staff will guide both parents and kids through proper throwing mechanics, fielding fundamentals, game ready drills, and much more.

The idea is powerful: when parents understand the skills being taught, they can reinforce them between practices - helping young athletes improve faster and feel more supported.

For young players, confidence often grows from repetition and encouragement. When mom or dad understands the drills and language coaches are using, the feedback at home becomes clearer and more effective.

For parents, it removes the guesswork. No more wondering, “Am I teaching this right?” Instead, you leave knowing exactly how to help.

And perhaps most importantly - it’s fun. Few experiences beat sharing the field together.

An Evening Where Art Changes Lives: The 23rd Annual Art Auction & Gala

On February 26, the ballroom at Eden Resort will fill with conversation, good food, and - most importantly - artwork created by the talented Heart Artists of Friendship Community.

This is all part of the 23rd Annual Art Auction & Gala.

But this isn’t just a gallery on display. It’s a celebration of people.

If you’ve never experienced the work coming out of Friendship Community’s Heart Gallery & Market or Heart Art Studio, it’s hard to explain just how personal it feels. Each piece reflects the vision and personality of an artist who is part of a program designed to empower adults with intellectual disabilities and autism through creativity.

And when you stand in front of the art, you feel it.

The evening includes a live auction, a chance to meet the artists, and a keynote appearance by artist Trent Landreth (known online as @drawingsbytrent), whose work has inspired audiences far beyond Lancaster County.

But the heart of the night isn’t the program - it’s the stories behind the canvases.

What makes this gala special is the atmosphere. It’s elegant, yes. But it’s also joyful. It’s community-centered.

You’ll see longtime supporters catching up, first-time guests discovering new artists, and bidders raising paddles not just because they love a piece - but because they believe in what it represents.

Every dollar raised supports Friendship Community’s mission of helping individuals with disabilities live fuller, more independent lives. That mission doesn’t feel abstract when you’re there. It feels real.
