Happy Tuesday folks.

Andrew here. The county is slowing down after a Valentine's weekend full

of chocolate walks, date nights, and probably too much champagne.

I can feel it. We're all taking a collective breath.

That’s a good thing. But don’t worry, there’s still plenty happening around the county.

Here’s what I think is worth your time.

Friends Book Sale Returns to Adamstown Library This Tuesday

Book lovers in northern Lancaster County have another reason to stop by the Adamstown Library this week.

The Friends of the Adamstown Area Library will host their ongoing Friends Book Sale on Tuesday, February 17, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the library’s Community Room. The weekly fundraiser offers a wide selection of gently used books and media at deeply discounted prices.

Shoppers can browse hardback books for $2, trade paperbacks for $1, and mass market paperbacks for just 50 cents. The sale also features children’s books, puzzles, DVDs, and audiobooks - making it a worthwhile stop for families, collectors, and anyone looking to stretch their reading budget.

The Friends Book Sale takes place every Tuesday during the same hours, giving residents multiple opportunities to stop in and explore the rotating inventory. Proceeds from the sale support library programs, services, and community initiatives through the Friends organization.

Events like this play an important role in sustaining local libraries, helping fund programming and resources that benefit readers of all ages.

The Adamstown Library Community Room will be open to the public throughout the sale. Attendees should note that images captured during the event may be used in print or online publications or on social media.

Virtual “Almost Perfect Crimes” Event Invites Teens and Adults to Solve a Mystery Together

If you’ve ever read a mystery novel and thought, I could solve this faster than the detective, here’s your chance to prove it.

Also in Adamstown, but available anywhere, The Adamstown Area Library is hosting “Almost Perfect Crimes” on Tuesday, February 17, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

This interactive, virtual event invites teens and adults to work together to solve a mini murder mystery in real time.

Led by Miss Jess, the hour-long program unfolds like a classic whodunit. Participants who register will receive a Zoom link ahead of the event, along with access to that month’s Mini Murder Mystery story, which is attached to the event page. During the live session, additional clues and pieces of evidence will be revealed, giving attendees the chance to analyze details, share theories, and ultimately determine who committed the crime.

The program is designed for teens and adults due to some graphic content.

Registration is required and will close at 6:15 p.m. on February 17, just before the event begins.

While participants are asked to enter a library card number for record-keeping purposes, it is not required to attend.

“Almost Perfect Crimes” is part of an ongoing monthly series, with mystery story PDFs already available for multiple months throughout 2026. Each session offers a new case to crack and a fresh set of suspects to interrogate - virtually, of course.

Those interested in participating can register through the Adamstown Area Library’s events calendar. For more information, click here.

Lancaster Weather: What to Expect This Week

As we head into mid week, central Pennsylvania will remain in a mostly cool and unsettled winter pattern with temperatures lingering near or just below seasonal averages, occasional cloud cover, and a few chances for mixed precipitation over the next several days.

Personally I love that it’s getting warmer out. It’s still cold, don’t get me wrong, but it isn’t brutal like that cold snap we’ve had through the last month.

Today

Expect partly sunny skies with a high near 48°F and mostly cloudy conditions overnight. Low temperatures will dip into the mid-30s.

Wednesday

Cloudy skies continue with a 50% chance of showers by the afternoon. Highs will stay in the upper 40s.

Thursday through Friday

Cool conditions persist with daytime highs in the mid to upper 30s. Thursday is expected to be mostly cloudy, and Friday should bring sunshine and a brief break from precipitation with highs near the 40s.

Weekend Outlook

Saturday looks milder and mostly sunny with highs climbing closer to 40°F.

Sunday may see a chance of rain or snow showers as a weak frontal boundary moves through, with highs near 39°F.

Hopefully it’s warm enough for you to get a nice walk in - especially today as it reaches the upper 40s.

That’s todays updates,
Andrew From Lancaster Local
