Good morning, Lancaster County. The worst of the heat has eased — we're looking at around 87 today instead of the mid-90s and triple digits from earlier this week — though wildfire haze may still leave the sky looking a little milky. There's a lot of free stuff to do this weekend, and the county's oldest art club is opening its doors both tonight and Sunday.
In today's Lancaster Local:
The 90-year-old art club opening its Strasburg gallery this weekend
Two easy Friday outings: shaved ice in Lancaster, live music in Ephrata
A blues band, a classic-car morning, and a movie under the stars
A Latin dance night and a storytelling evening to round out the week
COMMUNITY NEWS
Ninety years of giving Lancaster artists a wall.
Before there was a First Friday, before there were pop-up galleries and mural festivals, there was the Lancaster County Art Association — a small club of local artists who wanted somewhere to hang their work. That was 1936. Ninety years later, it's still the county's oldest arts organization, still run out of its own gallery on Precision Avenue in Strasburg, and still doing the exact same thing: handing painters, photographers, and makers a wall and inviting the neighbors to come look. The club is marking the milestone two ways this month. Downtown at the Lancaster Art Vault (100 N Queen St), a retrospective called "LCAA at the Art Vault — 90 Years of Art" hangs through August 1, with a sculpture by Victor Capecce taking Best in Show. And out at the Strasburg gallery, the doors open twice this weekend: tonight for the club's Third Friday evening (5–8 p.m.) and again Sunday afternoon for a "Summer Holiday" open house (1–4 p.m.). It's the kind of quiet, decades-deep institution that's easy to drive past for years without ever stepping inside. This weekend's a good excuse to finally stop in.

Weather
Friday, July 17 — A break from the heat: partly sunny and hazy near 87, with wildfire smoke keeping the sky milky. The storm chance mostly holds off until overnight, so the day itself should stay dry — a good one to be outside after this week's scorchers.
Thanks for spending part of your morning with us. If you make it to that art gallery this weekend, tell them a neighbor sent you — 90 years in, a place like that keeps going on exactly that kind of foot traffic.
