One more jam for Marty
For years, if you wanted to hear bluegrass played the way it's meant to be — loose, generous, everybody welcome — you found your way to Marty Heisey's jam. He hosted it monthly for ages: it started when he was picking at the old White Oak Campground jam, bounced around the county, and eventually landed at his own community center, where the door was always open and the rule was simple. If you brought an instrument, you sat in.
Marty's gone now. And his friends are honoring him the only way that makes sense — by doing the thing he loved one more time, together.
The "Marty Bluegrass Jam" comes to Long's Park on Saturday, July 5 at 12:30 p.m. It's an open jam: bring a banjo, a fiddle, a guitar, a bass, or just bring a lawn chair and let the music find you. "Anyone who ever met Marty loved him," the organizer wrote — and on the 5th, the people who did will pick a few tunes in his name.
