Happy Tuesday, Lancaster!

Today in the Local I’m bringing you the story of a local latin fusion restaurant with as much heart and creativity (and delicious food) you could ever want.

This was a real joy for us, and we hope you love to learn about them as much as we loved meeting and writing about them.

We also talk about fun activities, sports, and more!

Here’s what I think is worth your time.

Angel and Juan Mejias turned their dream into reality with Halo’s Eatery - evolving from a beloved food truck into a full-fledged restaurant on Cherry Street in Columbia.

What started as “Soul-Rican” comfort eats has blossomed into vibrant global fusion cuisine with a Latin twist, complete with fan favorites like empanadas, the Halo Bowl, and a Jerk Chicken Cheesesteak that’s too good to miss.

Discover how this family-run spot is weaving bold flavors into community spirit - from pay-it-forward meals to free empanadas for local students - and what’s in store for its first anniversary season.

Zenkaikon Is Back And It Sells Out Fast

While we usually focus on events happening this week, some gatherings in Lancaster City are just too popular - and too fun - not to share early.

One of those is Zenkaikon, the region’s beloved multi-genre anime and fandom convention, set for March 20-22, 2026 at the Lancaster County Convention Center.

Now in its spring edition, Zenkaikon brings together fans of anime, manga, gaming, sci-fi, fantasy, comics, cosplay and more for a three-day celebration of creativity and community.

Zenkaikon tickets often sell out well in advance, especially for premium packages and early access perks. With a convention this large and richly programmed, spots move quickly - particularly for returning guests and cosplayers who make Easter weekend their annual tradition in Lancaster City.

Big Volleyball Weekend in Lancaster - The Irish Rumble Is Back

If you've got a young athlete in the house or you just love watching competitive sports, this weekend's a good one.

The Irish Rumble girls volleyball tournament runs March 7–8 at Spooky Nook Sports and the Lancaster County Convention Center, featuring multiple competition divisions across all age groups.

It's one of the bigger tournaments to come through Lancaster County each year, and the energy inside these venues is worth seeing even if you don't have a kid on the court.

Spectator tickets can be purchased online - buy before Friday to save a few bucks. Kids under 10 get in free.

Open Mic Night at Phantom Power This Tuesday

If you've been meaning to get out on a weeknight, this is a low-key way to do it.

Phantom Power in Millersville is hosting Open Mic Night this Tuesday from 7:00 to 10:00 PM. It's exactly what it sounds like — local singers, acoustic guitarists, songwriters, and storytellers stepping up to the mic and doing their thing.

The vibe is relaxed and the crowd is supportive, which makes it a good spot whether you're performing or just grabbing a drink and listening. You never really know what you're going to get on open mic night, and that's kind of the whole point.

If you've been sitting on a song or just want to hear what people around here are working on, Tuesday's your night.

That’s today’s updates.
