Two Stormers pitchers made the All-Star team — and they didn't stick around long.
Every so often the Stormers roster reminds you that Clipper Magazine Stadium is a launch pad, not a last stop. This month two of the club's arms made the Atlantic League's mid-season All-Star team, and both have already moved on to new organizations.
Left-handed starter Quinton Martinez earned the nod after going 5-1 with a 2.94 ERA over nine starts — including a stretch of 21 straight scoreless innings, with the Stormers winning his last eight outings. Closer Andrew Schultz backed him up with a 1.69 ERA, six saves, and a five-save run in May that made the ninth inning feel routine.
Here's the fun part: neither is walking out to the mound in Lancaster anymore. Martinez has signed with Fubon of Taiwan's Chinese Professional Baseball League, and Schultz has moved on to Double-A Springfield in the St. Louis Cardinals' system. That's the quiet magic of watching independent ball — you catch guys on their way through, cheer them for a summer, and get to say you saw them when.
